(UK) Activity 7 - Maths in School Research

Different groups in school conducted the survey to answer the research questions chosen and this shows some of the work produced.

What is your favourite brand of car?

After conducting the survey the group presented the data in a tally chart, bar charts and a pie chart.

What is your favourite chocolate or sweet?

What day of the week do you like most?

After conducting the survey this group presented the data in a tally chart using pictures of the chocolate bar for visual support.

Looking for shapes, patterns and numbers in the environment

The presentation below contains a review of our activities:

A template was decided upon to formally record the main aims and activities from each country. This also includes the various differentiated ideas undertaken to allow all students to be included in the tasks. This will be completed by all partners for each activity to create a final product of activities to promote an alternate way of teaching mathematics in schools.

The following is an example:

(Italy) Task 6 - Maths and Games

(Romania) Task 6 - Maths and Games

Maths and Games - Romanian Team

For the Maths and Games activity of our project, the Romanian team organised a series of activities that included treasure hunting as well as different fun activities that tried to find a link between mathematics and environmental issues.

We found that the best way to achieve our goals is to get the students out of the classroom so that they can relate to the idea that Maths is a subject that reflects and related to the reality that surrounds them.

We divided our students into groups

They have to solve calculations and also work with geometrical shapes.
We found a way to interconnect maths and geography/ ecology.

We decided to go out of the classroom and work together in the school yard.
