Activities from the First Short term pupil exchange in Catania, Sicily

Student powerpoint on Activity 4 Maths and Art
whilst in Sicily

In the above video there are examples of Maths in art. During our stay in Sicily our students looked for Maths in their surroundings - at school, in the streets, in museums, old buildings and other places. Here's what they found.

(Romania) Activity 3 Maths and Travelling

The third activity of the project was a great way of engaging our students in an activity that was both pleasurable and useful.

The research they had to undergo made them surf the internet in search for means of transport, accommodation, local attractions.

We decided to make some of our classes work in teams, whereas other classes made projects at home.

The fact that they had to present their projects in front of the class was also an interesting experience, especially for younger students who carefully prepared their speech and were very proud of their achievements and keen to share their findings.

Here are some photos of the activity:

The task could be further enhanced - if there were more time for it. Students could prepare a photo album along with descriptions of places that they would visit during the trip - "The journey of my dreams". We could also ask students to show how to implement a planned trip - i.e. where and how to find money for the trip. In this way students could demonstrate their entrepreneurship.
